Shopping in Fukuoka

Konnichi wa!

I still have a couple of entries on Fukuoka left, we were there for four days after all 🙂

When it comes to shopping, I admit, I kind of got carried away a little bit (the husband will shake his head and call this an understatement). The thing is though, what caught my eye aren’t the cosmetics or the clothes, it was the home stuff! So many nice and cute home stuff! Nothing affirms my transition into a boring, corny housewife more because our budget went to placemats and bath rugs (hahahahuhu).

Where did I find these too-good-to-be-true home stuff? Here are some shopping spots and finds:

Tenjin Underground Shopping Mall

Tenjin Chikagai is a long, basement, shopping arcade at the heart of Tenjin Station. It’s a great shopping area, full of interesting items and local fashion brands. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants for pit stops as well.

The place is cool (as in cold and awesome, hehe), it’s great for hanging out, for people watching, and it’s easily accessible. My brother and I walked around and explored while Aki took a nap in Apetito.

I got a couple of socks as pasalubong for Akira’s classmates (1,000 Yen for 3 pairs!), and an ampersand décor from my personal best discovery here: home and lifestyle brand ‘salut!’.

Loved this store. It’s like Typo but more country/rustic. It’s also a bit like Muji where there’s apparel and knickknacks apart from the home decor and storage solutions, although salut! is a smaller store.

INCUBE Department Store

Before reaching the Tenjin Underground shopping arcade, we were in Incube. I think it’s interesting to check out a typical mall or department store in any city or country that we visit just to see how ours fare 🙂

The boys singled out Incube because it had a Gundam exhibit. I can’t relate to Gundam, I’m more of an Evangelion fan, so I was more than happy to peruse the toys and home section while they went to the exhibit.

So stoked to see Ghibli merchandise!

Bento boxes or lunch boxes – everything from traditional to cute. They even have a set in my favorite camouflage print. If you’re wondering what my kid is doing, she’s washing her tummy with a bento box, nbd.

Finally, I’d like to single out these two as my best finds in Incube Tenjin. A bandana for your kitty and these perfect-for-Halloween costume suggestions. Never change, Japan 🙂
